Chasowa’s death ‘not suicide’, insists pathologist Dzamalala

NyasaTimes  "Malawi’s pathologist Dr Charles Dzamalala, who carried out a post-mortem on the body of a fourth year University of Malawi engineering student Robert Chasowa whose mysterious death police say, was a case of suicide, told Capital Radio’s Straight Talk programme on Tuesday that his death was not suicide and that his yet-to-be released report will state so. Chasowa was found in a pool of blood at the college campus with a deep cut on the back of his head on September 24, 2011." Deadly blasts strike Kenya rally

Police in Kenya are expected to soon reveal what caused two explosions at a political rally in the capital, Nairobi. At least six people were killed and more than 100 others wounded during the incident on Sunday. The back-to-back explosions went off at a rally held to protest against a referendum on a new draft constitution. Al Jazeera's Zeina Awad reports from the capital. Alleged police murder behind Egypt protests

Egypt's chief prosecutor has ordered an investigation into the death of Khaled Saeed, a young man allegedly killed by police in the coastal city of Alexandria. Activists and family members say the 28-year-old was tortured to death for possessing video material implicating members of the police in a drug deal. The allegations were followed by protests in Alexandria and the Egyptian capital of Cairo where authorities responded with force. French army to close Senegal base 50 years after independence

Ethiopian polls open

Voting is underway in Ethiopia, in legislative elections that are set to be a stiff test of the country's democracy. Menes Zelawi, the current prime minister, is expected to be returned as leader, after 19 years in power. But the opposition is already crying foul, with memories of the 2005 election that led to widespread bloodshed still fresh in the minds of many Ethiopians. While the opposition parties are already making claims of unfairness, the public mood does not seem to be in any way as charged as it was in the disputed 2005 poll.
