Swords out

The Weekly Observer "As the standoff between government and Mengo over the land bill escalates, President Museveni has enlisted the support of 30,000 Buganda veterans, each of whom is to be paid Shs 1 million.
At the same time, a senior minister in his government says the Buganda government at Mengo is unconstitutional and simply a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).
As this happens, chances of a face-to-face meeting between the President and the Kabaka, which was expected to bring the two sides closer, have all but diminished. The meeting was to be held between January 7-11, but none of the parties has fulfilled each other’s conditions: Museveni wanted Mengo to stop the anti-land bill mobilisation, while Mengo wanted Museveni to suspend the bill, which has since been tabled in Parliament."
