The Times LUSAKA - Striking construction workers rioted at a copper smelter in Zambia today, taking a group of Chinese managers hostage and damaging property in protest against poor working conditions.
The hostages were set free a few hours after workers locked them in their offices and shut the perimeter gates to the 200-million-dollar Chinese-owned site near the town of Chambeshi, company spokesmen and police told AFP.
