Nigerian militants ask for US mediation in oil crisis

International Herald Tribune: "LAGOS, Nigeria: Militants behind attacks on Nigeria's oil infrastructure have asked the United States and President George W. Bush to mediate to try to end a crisis that has seen foreign workers kidnapped and cut output of Africa's biggest producer.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, or MEND, released a letter late Sunday asking for help in ending the years of unrest in the southern Niger Delta region."
