Grade 7 results out as girls excel

Times of Zambia: "MORE than 170,000 grade 7 pupils have been selected for grade 8 out of the total of 288,708 candidates who sat for the examinations last year as more girls than boys excelled.
North-Western Province scored the highest progression rate while Mufulira District scored 100 per cent pass rate and all the 4,758 candidates were selected for grade 8.
Announcing the results in Lusaka yesterday, Education Minister Geoffrey Lungwangwa said that 174,173 pupils made it for grade 8 giving a total progression rate of 60.33 per cent, 7.68 per cent better than last year’s."

Kate Kainja passes away

Nyasa Times "Minister of Women and Child Development Kate Kainja-Kaluluma has passed away in United Kingdom. “Indeed Hon Kate Kainja Kaluluma has died,” confirmed family friends in London. The 57-year-old minister was admitted to a North England hospital – York Hospital. Diplomatic sources at Malawi High Commission in London have said arrangements are being made to send her remains to Malawi. Kainja who was Dedza South West Constituency parliamentarian flew to United Kingdom for medical attention after a long-illness. She is survived by a husband, Emanuel Kaluluma and three children."
