Police captain shoots wife, kills himself

The Times "A police captain from Jeppe police station attempted to murder his wife - in front of their three children - and later killed himself, Vaal police said today.
The incident happened yesterday at about 8pm at the couple’s home in Sebokeng.
Vaal Rand police spokesman Captain Velaphi Mcera said the man had used his police firearm to shoot his wife.
He later left to go to his parents home where he killed himself.
'It’s not clear what led to the attack - it was his 44th birthday yesterday,' Mcera said.
He said it was understood that the captain phoned his sister before shooting his wife.
Mcera said the captain’s wife was in a critical condition in the Union hospital."
