Mystery of 10000 missing EC matrics

Daily Dispatch: "WHILE the Eastern Cape government was announcing it had achieved a 57 percent pass rate among matrics, it emerged that almost 10000 of the provinces matriculants had disappeared from the system.
In a full-page advertisement in yesterdays Daily Dispatch and from announcements prior to the matric exams, the provincial Education Department maintained that 79222 full-time candidates had registered to write the final examinations.
But yesterday morning, as Education MEC Johnny Makgato announced the results at the Christian Centre in East London, the figure had mysteriously dropped to 78830."
