Justice Minister Denies Excess of Preventive Custody

AngolaPress "Luanda, 12/05 – Angolan Justice minister, Manuel Aragão, Tuesday in Luanda, denied excess of preventive custody on individuals kept in Angolan prison without a formal charge. Manuel Aragão, who was responding to an interpellation by main opposition Unita party’s parliamentary bench, admitted there is still excess of preventive custody on individuals formally charged. The minister explained that, currently, as a result of a great effort, there isn’t in the country a single prisoner whose legal terms of preventive custody have expired, ahead of a prosecuting council formal charge or court intimation. According to him, there is in Luanda only charged prisoners awaiting trial, which he deplored, but said efforts are underway for their settlement. "
