Kenyan military launches heavy crack down in western province

Deutsche Welle "Kenya's military has deployed heavy weapons to crack down on militia, who are believed to be linked to the country's post election violence. Military helicopters fired at targets in the western Mount Elgon region, to flush out gunmen suspected of killing at least 12 people. That attack on civilians last week was the latest violence linked to land disputes which were exacerbated during Kenya's political crisis earlier this year. Police have blamed the violence on criminal gangs, notably a shadowy group calling itself the Saboat Land Defence Force, and have vowed to wipe them out of the Mount Elgon region."
